🏳️🌈 Celebrating the Power of Pride 🏳️🌈
This week marks the beginning of Pride, a month-long celebration of love and diversity. It is also an opportunity to promote inclusion and equality for members of the LGBTQIA community.
While there will be plenty of parties and parades in the weeks ahead, Pride is a reminder of the ongoing need for allyship and support. While significant progress has been made since the Stonewall Uprising, members of the LGBTQIA community still experience discrimination and harassment. Unfortunately, this is especially true in the workplace.
A recent study from UCLA School of Law found:
- 46% of LGBT workers said they have experienced unfair treatment at work.
- 68% of LGBT workers reported that they have heard negative comments, slurs, or jokes about LGBT people at work.
- LGBT people of color are more likely to be denied jobs and experience verbal harassment at work.
Education and Allyship
With this in mind, Searchspring is celebrating Pride by focusing on how to be supportive allies and strong members of the LGBTQIA community – furthering one of our company values to Treat Everyone with Respect.
Within our teams, employees share educational resources and provide information about charities to donate to or get involved with. As a company, Searchspring supports donation matching, meaning charitable donations by employees to recognized organizations are matched. We also encourage employees to take advantage of our open PTO policy to volunteer or celebrate meaningful dates, like Pride.
The Power of Pride extends beyond the month of June. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are key focuses for Searchspring year-round. Our Diversity Committee leads ongoing training, education, and awareness initiatives to shape our inclusive interview and hiring practices.
