ShoeMetro is a leading discount retailer, carrying a vast selection of premium footwear and accessories from over 200 brands including Christian Dior, Salvatore Ferragamo, Coach and Calvin Klein.
Featured on both the Inc. 500 list of the fastest growing private companies and the Internet Retailer Top 500 list, ShoeMetro is considered a power-player in the online footwear and accessory discount industry.
ShoeMetro has been riding a wave of explosive year-over-year growth for several years, however, their third-party search vendor was having issues keeping up with the growth of their traffic and catalog. In order to mitigate this problem, ShoeMetro developed a local cache workaround which was ultimately unsuccessful.
As our business continued to grow, the local cache became more and more problematic from both a performance perspective and a data accuracy perspective as the local cache would get out of synch with both search results and the product catalog. After exhausting all possibilities… we made the decision to migrate to SearchSpring. Kris Windlinx – Director of IT
ShoeMetro needed a provider that had demonstrated their ability to scale and SearchSpring was chosen based on their strong historical performance and technological expertise. Their robust technological infrastructure allows them to provide the industry-leading response times and stability required by ShoeMetro and hundreds of other enterprise clients. SearchSpring leverages a multi-tiered architecture to deliver industry-leading speed and reliability. This forward-thinking design is optimized for dynamic scaling which is crucial to supporting large traffic volumes and growing product catalogs. At the core of this architecture are several technological components. AWS cloud computing enables dynamic scaling of computational resources, while Dyn provides ultra-fast DNS resolution and automatic failover. Geographic redundancy is in place to ensure that the physical location of a shopper is not a barrier to speed. SearchSpring also utilizes Spark, a leading “Big Data” cluster computing framework which ensures that even the largest product catalogs pose no problems to the platform. When combined, all of these technologies ensure a world-class experience for eCommerce merchants and their customers.
Upon switching to SearchSpring, ShoeMetro experienced immediate improvements in speed and reliability. Over time I have found it harder and harder to find vendors that exceed expectations… Our first holiday weekend on SearchSpring we had response times under 1 second the entire weekend including Cyber Monday with ZERO site issues. Kris Windlinx – Director of IT
ShoeMetro made the move to SearchSpring just before the peak holiday shopping season. Black Friday and Cyber Monday represent two of the highest volume traffic days for ShoeMetro and most other eCommerce merchants. The increased traffic causes so many issues that industry professionals often refer to the days as “cybergeddon”. Slow response times, server timeouts, and even downtime are often expected with such huge traffic spikes. However, ShoeMetro experienced no such issues after switching to SearchSpring. In fact, ShoeMetro experienced an average latency of only 100 milliseconds without a single moment of downtime.
